Chances of an FAC?

Hi all,

I'm part of a rifle club and shoot regularly in county comps etc but it's gotten to the stage that it'd be very helpful if I could use my own gun rather than a club gun which other people use and I have to get someone from the club to take to comps etc. Now, my father and I already have SGCs but I presume that's irrelevant. My understanding was that to obtain a FAC one either needs permissions to shoot on certain pieces of land and for the police to come and check them out or for one to have been a member of a club for at least a year. My father would need the licence as I'm 14 anyway but he wouldn't be a member of a club for a year etc etc.

Someone else told me that one just needs a suitable reason to get an FAC i.e., to buy a gun for me to shoot in comps.

could someone please set me straight?

cheers

You need to do the clubs probation period - that can typically be anywhere between 3 and 6 months if you don't have land to shoot over.

If you have land then you can have the guns conditioned for live quarry and target shooting.

At 14 you can apply for a FAC.

thanks,

we do actually have some land with an embankment but i wouldn't shoot on it with a target rifle...

also it doesn't help much if I have an FAC seeing as I can't buy the gun myself, but would having the licence mean I can transport one at a certain age?

Why don't you talk to the Secretary/Chairman/RCO, whatever at the club?

Specific target/competition rifles (whatever calibre) are very seldom used in the field, but plenty of field rifles will be able to give you some fun target shooting. Simply depends on the level you are talking about, if you want serious target/competition and field work you need 2 different rifles!!

You and your father could both hold an FAC. Your father could buy a gun and 'share' it on your certificate. You could go to the range without your father.

If you hold a FAC you can take the gun and ammunition out. You just can't purchase one until you are 18!

thanks, but the club rules are minors must be accompanied etc until 18

Me and my dad did the same thing when i was too young to have my own gun. He got a license at the same time i did and all guns are shared between licenses.

Give you FEO a call and explain the situation and they should be able to help.

Good Luck

did your father shoot the gun as well or was it just you using it?

I'm pretty sure I'd need two different guns but I'll try and talk to the FEO
