fenboy
I thought I would treat my Lab pup to a upgrade in his kennel . Spent a few quid on some nice high density foam matting for his kennel and sleeping box as he tends to drag anything else in there out side. Spent about 3 hrs fitting it , fastening the edges with 1" x 1/2 " wood strips with screw every 3 " or so to stop him pulling it up , and fitting a new baffle to his sleeping box after enlarging the pop hole . less than a hour after finishing , the mat is all ripped up , the new baffle looks like its been attacked by a beaver

ben0850
My lab, springer and all our sheepdogs drag anything and everything out if their respective kennels. I find the only way is to make the sleeping box part of the kennel so it's lifted up off the concrete etc and they don't realise it's anything other than the "floor" if that makes sense? To be fair the wife's eldest sheepdog would sleep outside in a blizzard given half the chance, not sure if it's because she's so stubborn even Mother Nature won't best her! kent
Don't presume we know what is best, the dog will soon tell you if it disagrees
Nikk
I thought my lab had way grown out of destructive behaviour until the other day he decimated the front door matt...the kind made out of Coir. The hoover was clogged up for ages from sucking up clumps of the stuff. Just came out of the blue. The other thing he never grew out of is spinning round in the garden just before he needs the toilet, just before he takes a dump he started galloping in circles. He runs back and forth and has dug two lovely deep holes in my new garden and turf! We are now looking in to false grass....or mittens for his paws Edited December 3, 2013 by Nikk

Nikk
Some dogs need to run or rapidly exercise before they can empty (not sure why, they just do) I'll get him to start smoking and drinking coffee...it's a much easier way to have a c**p without destroying the garden But yeh it could be down to the food he is on. His stools are firm which seems like a good thing but maybe he needs that run first, I generally walk him so he can go to the toilet but every now and then he catches me out. The garden now looks like a pony paddock....it's past repair
