scotslad
Must admit i think there is very few things that are actually 100% waterproof when it's really coming down, been on some days on the hill on grouse with no shelter that really tests everything, 1 day i had a 20 quid fleece on that was almost better than my berghaus but if its heavy enough for long enough u will get wet. Seen almost all brands and makes fail if the weather is bad enough for long enough no matter how much they paid for it. Or u wil find something, pay a fortune for it a rip it on the first barb wire fence u come too despite never ripping a cheap pair for years. And pushing past soaking branches/folage and brairs only makes it worse I tend to use flexathene for work and beating (althou now wearing cheap ski trousers for work which are almost waterproof and toasty) usually have to pairs to change if needed, not to bad. Got a new pair of Berghuas only 50 quid for goretex not tried them in proper weather yet but so far so good. My mate sweres by delamere, i used to but not such a big fan now. Have u tried wearing helly hansen type base layer below wot ever trousers u wear? On a really sh **ty day i will put the base layer on and even if ur top layer gets wet it stops it touching ur skin so u are really quite comfy. I used to wear cheapy jeans for work with base layer below if it started raining after 2ish i wouldnae even bother with waterproofs and just carry on, usually there is nothing colder/more horrible than wet jeans on a cold windy day but with the base layer u never noticed them. I swere by base layer now, really takes the misery out of being wet when ur waterproofs finally give up
masmiffy
Personally have always prefered wax overtrousers cant say they have ever let me get wet. Used them shooting beating and ferreting. I do try to get someone to shorten them tho to stop the mud creeping up between welly and trousers. Good shot?
I have used 'sprayway' overtrousers (with zip up lower leg) for fly fishing.Been out in torrential rain all day more than once or twice and stayed bone dry.Not been roughing it in hard cover though because I dont,t go shooting in heavy rain. They are very hard wearing and still more than serviceable after 10 years or more. Albertan_J
Ah!! but which particular Berghaus trousers are right for beating?? I'll have to have a look at mine but they were 40 or 50 quid and have kept me 100% dry on the grouse and pheasants into my fourth season. Easy on and off and pack away small unlike heavy wax leggings.
Albertan_J
Quick Google search I have the deluge however there are goretex ones too
adam f
I'd have thought if you want thorn and bramble proof trousers for beating that won't leak then waxed cotton is th way to go? Any of the goretex type products will be waterproof to an extent by but start dragging it through heavy cover and you'll soon damage the fabric. I wear a full set of Musto MPX goretex waterproofs when I'm on my boat in heavy weather and I can tell you short to a dry suit it's amazing kit. Such a shame they don't make it in green for shooting! Mind you on the odd driven day in absolutely foul weather I have been known to wear it!
