bazzab
Good day all. Me and the misses are thinking of having day at Bletchley Park tomorrow. Anyone been? Any good? ? Many thanks.
amateur
Not too much to see, just the house and huts with story-boards explaining them and, of course the replica of Colossus (the code-cracking computer) and, when we went, a museum of early computers - it was a little odd to see computers that I had installed commercially to be shown as museum-pieces. Oh! and a pigeon section http://www.bletchleypark.org.uk/content/hist/wartime.rhtm http://www.tnmoc.org/ Edited December 29, 2013 by amateur
aris
Been several times - it is great. Firstly, go on the walking tour (free/included in admission) - you learn alot. Go and see the re-creation of the Bombe - and the various enigma machines. Speak to the curators - they are enthusiasts and a wealth of information. Your ticket is good for a year too - so if you want to go back, you can. The national computing museum is an extra - that's where they have the colossus and other computing artefacts. They have the oldest working computer in the world set up there (and working) - quite incredible. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harwell_computer If you're not interested in history, WW2, code breaking, or computing history - they you might find it a bit boring. There are alot of misconceptions of what went on there, and how they did it - going to Bletchley and the tour will clear all that up. bruno22rf
Mainly boring unless you are into the whole Bletchley triangle/spy schools thingy-grounds are nice but not this time of the year.

Very sensible - it's a fair step between the huts and the house, and I believe that Alan Turing used a pushbike to get around

Has changed a bit since then :-). They got a big lottery grant to refurb the old huts. What really brings the place alive is the tour.
