Whatmuff
Good Evening all, anyone have any experience or an idea of how much it will cost me to have an extendable butt pad put on my over/under? It's too short and a little low on me so one of these will be perfect! Kind regards Dan
fieldwanderer
I got an adjustable butt plate cheap ish online but that only adjusts side to side, up and down and possibly twists. If you don't need much more length, maybe one of the above and a diy spacer?
HDAV
Extendable? So you can vary the the length? http://www.midwayuk.com/Graco-Adjustable-Length-Height-Angle-Buttplate-Standard-Shotguns If its low you'll need a comb raiser too depending on the gun may well be better buying one that fits than spending £££ on the current one. http://www.doveridgeclaysports.co.uk/gunsmith Edited January 1, 2014 by HDAV
Whatmuff
Well I need an extra inch and half to the length of the stock. I have just a fabric extender at the moment to trial and it does the job. The gun is mounting much better. The gun is a Beretta Silver Pigeon S, so not the best or worst but I did wonder whether it was worth adjusting the stock or selling and buying a bigger gun that fits? But these stock adjusters seem ok and I can get them from the states for around £30. That dove ridge looks the place for fitting.
welshwarrior
Just have the stock extended easy£40 plus the pad then use a rubber comb raiser until your sure of the changes £200 for adjustable comb that adds value to a good gun as well. Whatmuff
Ah nice one, many thanks for the advice sounds like a plan to me!
HDAV
Has the gun been cut down or do you need a long LOP 15"+ ? reason being is berretta wood work comes up for sale and might be better to look for an adjustable stock. Depending on where you are there are gunsmiths/stockers who can make a tidy job of the extension and adjust the comb or fit an adjustable for you. Whatmuff
We'll the LOP is currently around 14 inches and I need 16 inches, I have been on the hunt for another stock for a while, I love the gun however if it fitted a bit better I might start hitting things! Danoi99
Wouldn't want to spar with this dude, not with a reach like that !!
Whatmuff
Well I have a fabric bear tooth jobbie on it at the mo with all the pads in and it extends it at an inch and a half and it mounts much better. I think 15 1/2 would be fine, I don't think I would notice the difference in length to be honest, however 14 inches is really short and I'm getting a lot of bruising on the old chops! I'm in Orpington at the mo, but when I return back to work I'll be in Ely near Cambridge. It's a Beretta Silver P S not sure if they are std stocks? HDAV
14.25 of wood with 0.5" pad as factory iirc and different size butt pads allow for adjustment. upto 15.25 with a 1" pad. You're wrong end of the world for me to help but someone will know a good stocker round those parts
Will Poon
I'm no gun fitter but bruising on your cheek has more to do with cast
HDAV
I'm no gun fitter but bruising on your cheek has more to do with cast Cast possibly (RH shooter, Right master eye?) more likely short stock or low comb (side effect of lengthening a short stock is lowering effective comb) causing head lifting, or poor gun mount which is why its wise to get the fit checked properly before spending money on having work done.... Whatmuff
I'll have to pop it into a shop and have someone look at it I suppose. Well before I start spending a load on having it adjusted. Since I've added the temp extension the bruisings near enough stopped which is a lot more comfortable. I guess you've tried mounting the gun infront of the mirror and take a look at where your eye is In relation to the rib ?
Whatmuff
I have however, I can't be sure I am correctly mounting it every time, and I seem to be looking flat (with the extension)
Will Poon
When I mean your eye in relation to your rib, is the centre of you eye bang on the middle of the rib not to one side if that makes any sense
welshwarrior
Bruising can come from any of the measurements cast bend or lop being wrong.
