brooke
just a little update. took the dog out today, noticed that he seemed to know what was what,a quick walk in the fields with my mate shooting ahead of us. dog not bothered in the least and wanting to see what was going on. slowly upto the gun......dog in sit possision,bang.....and it was great to see him look at me as if to say can i go then?. the next shot i took, dog by my side, dropped a rabbit about 40 yards,he looked at me again, this time i thought i would chance him.... straight to the rabbit, picked up and then straight back to me....dropped at my feet and sat down next to me for a praise. i was amazed, sent him for five in total, with 3 retrieved perfect and 2 left half way back. very happy so far but then it could all change next time. kipper
Sounds like you have landed on your feet there with him brook. keep up the training, im sure it will be worth it in the end. and you cant do too mutch bonding with him. but dont pamper and spoil him too mutch, dont forget he is a working dog. good luck mate. kipper
brooke
working dog,is the key here. he has settled in but still a little grumpy at times. we seem to have bonded well and he is responding well to all commands. the thing with me is....im no dog trainer so i think the pair of us are going to learn together. pin
I am no expert but you probably want to look into some routines to stop him dropping the retrieve, you want him holding it until you take it off him. Sounds like you have a good un there mate
