Jaymo
Typical Sat down to do some reloading tonight and my digital scales failed- second set. (Have an old balance beam but it's a LEE one so a bit tedious So, I need some new ones- what are recommended? Medical type or something like the Hornady lock n load powder dispenser system? saddler
I use the RCBS Chargemaster set. Very easy to use & good results
Jaymo
Throwing ball and kernel As much as I like beams it's the waiting for them to damp out that gets me. Use a. LEE powder dispenser and then scales to check every ten or so for some sort of consistency and initial setup. Last scales were cheapy Smart Reloader and seemed great- last weekend perfect, tonight wouldn't switch on even changed the batteries but nothing. So called med scales are around £90 and the Hornady electronic scales weigh in ( geddit ) at £99 so not much difference. What ever I get is a bind as the money was due to go on a new press
Blunderbust
Dont load a huge ammount, I normally wait untill I have 50 cases all prepped ready to prime, powder and load up. To do this I use the cheap Lee powder dispencer to throw a load just short of what I want, then I use a manual trickler into my RCBS 10 -10 scales to get the powder load bang on every time. I admit it does take a bit of time but I am in no hurry and enjoy my reloading, as long as I limit it to the 50 at a time.

Do mine in exactly the same way, when I first started to reload it was a pain as I reloaded so darn many. As time has progressed ( and confidence in my load/shooting grew) the novelty has worn off a bit I find I don't load half as many.
kent
I throw the charges slightly low into the pan of my beam scales then use the trickler to drop the last few kernels in to bring to a perfect weight. I only use electronic for the shotgun the flakes are bigger and I am not so anal about fractions of a grain, also use them for shot. A friend is a Chemist and I asked his opinion on electronic and he told me how they need calibrating and what can effect them also on the degree of accuracy I require, its a non starter for me RSBC, Lyman or Hornaday, I use RCBC
Jaymo
Know what you mean about the Calibration of the scales ( that's why several come with some weights to check, I guess). Ended up this morning whilst everyone else was asleep using the Lee Beam scale, watching the damping motion was slightly hypnotic...... Anyway, of to the range to see the results. Will be getting some new electronic scales aswell as an RCBS beam too
Jaymo
Nobody has anything nice to say about Lee beam scales. I will ----- they're cheap :-) ****** to see the 1/10 scale markings , with my eyes anyway- if only I was 20 years younger
cleaner4hire
A Targetmaster trickler and a decent set of scales (5-02, 5-05, 5-10, etc) would be my recommendation.
Jaymo
Hadn't seen the TargetMaster before. Checked their website and the accompanying video and it sure looks like a handy tool- but, my hand trickler does the same job- just not automatically.
