DaveyTed
Didn't want to hijack casts_by_fly's thread as this may take it off topic a bit. I shoot left handed and am left eye dominant but have a worn out right shoulder joint. This stops me taking the weight of the gun in the forehand and also limits how high I can lift the arm. I am thinking of trying to "change hands" and shoot off my right shoulder with a soft recoil semi-auto. Just wondering if anyone out there has any experience of swapping over. Thanks
Brad93
It can be done. I've heard of people using glasses with some vaseline smeared on them to correct the eye dominance issue. It will take some time to build up the hand eye co-ordination with the other hand.
wymberley
You say "worn out" rather than injured which implies an element of age. This alone can make it more difficult. However, it is perfectly feasible but requires patience, practice and not least, determination. Having said that, it may pay to see the doc' first as you really don't want a worn out joint changing to a smashed up mess and it might, therefore, just pay to accept some limitations to your capability. team tractor
My customer has done this and shoots better than ever. He shots a lot of game drives (40+ a year)
DaveyTed
Thanks for the replies. I have recently had keyhole surgery on my right shoulder as a short/medium term alternative to a replacement joint due arthritis. At the moment, however, it is not proving beneficial. I asked my surgeon about shooting off the worn out shoulder and he just said " if it hurts, don't do it". He did point out that a replacement joint does not give as great a range of movement as the original so I might still be limited although without pain. I did try a few off the right shoulder last summer and was quite successful on easy incoming clays after remembering which eye to close! Brad, I'm quite close to you, I live at Laindon and have been beating at Navestock, among others, for the past few years.
