the enigma
Are the connections on a car stereo pretty much stanard or are there different types?I've a basic Blaupunkt radio cassette player with a digital display in a '96 MF, and I want to get a stereo I can plug an ipod into. Just wondering if it's a matter of a straight swap?

SSS
Most cars are a standard fitting but some require you to fit a loom which varies in price, up to about £15. Edit. I think it uses the standard connections in a tractor. Edited February 10, 2014 by SSS

Cosd
What car is the stereo being fitted in? Most cars use ISO plug connectors but there are some that don't. I've been out of the car stereo game for a long time now but I would hesitate a guess and say most stereos also have ISO plugs. For the cars without this type of connection (BMW for one), you can buy adaptor wiring looms that do the conversion. It's then a matter of taking old stereo out, and plugging new one in. It's in a Massey Ferguson tractor. I pulled the stereo out yesterday and it looks like standard ISO connectors. Should be straight forward enough to sort out.
