NickB65
I am also in the market for a .22LR and have been looking at a few and due to the coating most .22 rounds have the auto's do tend to require a reasonable amount of cleaning and this comes from four of there five gun smiths I have spoken to. They all rate the CZ as the staple gun if looking for a .22lr When I started applying for my FAC there were lots local to me and now I have the ticket there seems to be few around..... may have to bite the bullet - no pun intended - and buy new. thepasty
If you want a good off the shelf semi you cant beat the CZ511/581, both my RFD rate them as the most accurate semi auto made in recent years. I too looked at 10/22's when wanting a semi 22 but when I put a 10/22 next to the 511 I could see no reason to go for the 10/22, its was double the price, less accurate and less well made! Mine cycles subs all day with no issues, has great accuracy, pops bunny heads out to 100yrds no probs ( I dont shoot further than that due to round limitations and shoot most at around 60yrds). Hi, Do you know of anyone who fettles these along the lines of the 10/22 Rimfire Magic ? I love the sound of the quality etc, but want something with already shortened barrel and snazzy stock. thepasty
Any gunsmith should be able to shorten and thread a barrel, my gun guys do it for £50 inc proofing. Unless something truly custom has been made for a 511 there are no off the shelf custom stocks etc available.

I have owned a CZ bolt action for 20+ years, the accuracy is outstanding but the stocks are quite poor in my view, just fancy getting a sorted custom semi to re-kindle my interest as presently I keep reaching for the FAC AA 510. All credit to them if that is the case, by the time they/you have paid carriage and proof fees that means they are doing the actual cut/thread/crown work free! thepasty
They're not your average gunsmith and send away for proofing in large numbers... simple economies of scale. What does yours charge? £80? Still not the end of the world and readily available for the guy who asked.
