swampy
what's the best dog training dvd for an English spinger spaniel Edited February 28, 2014 by swampy
kent
If you can read a book I should. The advice given in a book if recorded onto DVD might take all day to watch and there has been some excellent ones published on the subject matter
WGD
On the other hand actually seeing a behaviour is a lot easier on a DVD than your mind conjuring up a generally image. I have Ian Openshaw's, Edward Martin's, Simon Tyers (Hawcroft) and David Lisset's as well as a few of the less well known. David Lisset's are in my view the best training set, if you want to see the finished product buy a couple of championship DVDs from Paul French video. The older ones are cheaper but the dogs are still doing the same job. Books are a great point of reference but I don't think they are as effective in demonstrating training techniques. Guest
Barbara woodhouse "Sit" "Walkies" Only joking, but tap into youtube and search spaniel training and there's an old guy(Edward Martin) that trains cocker's and springer's,his soft voice and his mannerism is fantastic. True enough, though a session with a few of the real masters of the art are even better. Not all trainers are going to be as honest as others in their on screen representations of their ways, having been involved with other types of training videos / DVDs I can assert to the fact you film what you want and what you don't want gets scrapped
jayman
Openshaws Placeboard is excellent as a compliment to basic training and has worked wonders with my Sproker Bitch. Also Lab Training with Stan Harvey is very simple to follow. Mullenscote double DVD is good if your on a budget. DVD are great to show you how to anticipate a dogs actions and the correct way to correct and put your self in a place not to fail or at least not to let the dog get one up on you! Would anyone be intrested in a loan / swap on DVD for a few weeks?

Ian1513
Edward Martin for me, a bit eccentric at times but excellent trainer
