rossco321
I have ordered a BSA Lightning! I have bought this solely on reccomendations and reviews.... I'll pop some piccies up once I get it, I'm just praying it doesn't get damaged during it's journey. also, does the silencer that comes with it work?! It's just that I need to take care of some shockingly skittish woodies... EXCITED!
SNAKEBITE
The BSA lightning is an excellent little rifle. The silencer is perhaps not the worlds best but it will cut down on the crack, you might not notice as the moving parts will still go "boing" but it will make a dirrerence at the target end. I have found that most of the time woodies are scared by movement not noise so if you are hidden and can reload without being noticed you should be o.k. Paul in North Lincs.
good choice rossco....................hope you get on well well with you new gun Find out which tree they like to roost in, you will see masses of droppings and small feathers underneath or on surrounding foliage. Get youself tucked away and hidden an hour or so before the light starts to fail .............remain motionless, and you should be able to drop a few............good luck

rossco321
Good choice too, good all rounder those bsa lightning's what cal have you ordered rossco3321 I decided on a .22, purely for game, I gathered they give more knockdown power and didn't like the idea of a .177 only injuring the woodies and them flying off, that would be rubbish, and also because I have the odd rabbit to end, if I can get close enough that is, I have so much to learn with hunting small game! Unfortunately I'll have to wait until I can go off in pursuit as I could only afford the gun on it's own, the scope I'll have to get next month! Can't wait! EXCITED! hi, the BSA lightning is an excellent rifle, in my opinion anyway. it is light accurate and powerful. the silencer does help although you can still here the spring. all in all a great rifle Yeah I can't wait, I have to wait a week before I get it, it's agony. A number of people mentioned the spring being a bit noisy and suggested getting a gas ram put in, how much does that cost? I'd like the peace of mind knowing it wont lose power and being a bit quiter...also, I won't dare put it in myself, how much would the labour be? roughly? I imagine it'll be different prices with different dealers but I just need an idea. thanks

I PM'ed you  As for land, I'm lucky enough to live smack bang in a small rural village in Wyfold (berks), and the local pub is inundated with country folk, most of which have something to do with farming nearby (mostly rapeseed i think) and I'm on good terms with the manger of a vast piece of land (woods and barn inclusive  ), he's agreed I can do some long range plinking and vermin control so I'm lucky in that respect, it'll be a while until I hunt however as I feel I should get confident enough to humanely dispatch rabbits and pigeons with the odd rat thrown in (tis where the barn comes in handy). But yeah, I'm desperate to get going!!! The airgun community is awesome, everyone is friendly and helpful! glad to be part of it!

I've only heard good things about gas rams, I guess I'll just have to see, I know the power will hold up for a couple of years so I won't rush into it, but I will have a gander in the meantime, I'm up for losing the spring twang mostly!
