deny essex
When its ripe just before harvest through till after harvest with fallen wheat on the ground. Pigeon will often rest /sun themselves on short green wheat giving the impression of feeding but unless there is a weed crop growing within the wheat they will be off and gone if disturbed. Rape can be shot right through its growth ( but pigeon would sooner have a tastier crop if around), but more to the point if decoying what damage will you do to the crop laying a pattern, collecting shot pigeon , sending a dog in, better to check with the farmer when and if he would prefer you to stop shooting over any rape, it sends a good message of responsibility. Bare patches if there are any where pigeon or slugs have damaged the crop can be the only areas to shoot at times and can be productive if lucky.
