HDAV
Everything else working? Radio etc ( assume lamp works in another socket so its not the bulb etc?) if socket is only live when ignition is on it may be a relay that's gone
kennett
You might already know but some trucks have two lots of fuses, my l200 has one lot under the bonnet and another fuse box in the drivers footwell
hoggysreels
Fag lighter inop !!! .... get it in auto trader, with haste ... check fuse ... ign off .. the ign on ... no supply ... 12v tester .. earth tester and check supply to centre element... dont earth out on side of cig element .. should illuminate 12 v bulb ... get ohms meter .. check continuity of element or substitute with known good element ... " switch lights on .. does cig lighter illuminate (the light illumination ring around element base, not all have one) .. failing that .. have the car crushed, you know it makes sense .. The problem is people forget to put LSD additive in when they change the oil so the plates stick together.
HDAV
The problem is people forget to put LSD additive in when they change the oil so the plates stick together. When you say "people" do you mean "jeep dealers" who might be saving themselves a few £ on the astronomical parts and service charges they make? hoggysreels
Its a notoriously well known problem.in automobile circles .. Jeep are cheap or were in the past and manfactured to a stringent budget ... some people like them, thats fine ... cant think of a 4x4 thats totally trouble free .. but Jeep and rear axles are notoriously a common problem .. Mentalmac
I did the same thing with my cig lighter once (different car), dropped a mint imperial in there whilst driving and wanted it back so used a paperclip - doh! My fuses were behind glovebox though

The thing is in common with a lot of motor manufacturers Jeep do not make there own axles on XJs they use Dana 30 and 35 I believe that fronterea also use Dana axles the T- cases are made by another company as well as the auto gearboxes some of the later Jeeps use Murc engines and gearboxes but they do make the trusty old 4ltr engine for the money you get a lot of car/truck for your money and they do not go wrong half as often as the trusty Landrovers do there is only one real problem with having a Jeep the parts are quite expensive in the us they are cheep but once you add post and tax the price more than doubles.
