kennym
Serial number? National Data base? Assuming the gun had a number it makes you wonder just how good our gun controls are if the police can't trace the owner.
HDAV
At 1.10pm on Tuesday, March 18, police received a call from a member of the public walking their dog, that a weapon had been found in bushes in Woodhorn Road, near to Woodhorn Colliery Museum. Officers attended and a shotgun and ammunition were recovered. Officers are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area over the past week or so to contact them as it may help in their enquiries. Northumberland Chief Inspector Peter Reeve said: "On Tuesday, we responded to a report a firearm had been found in bushes in Ashington. The weapon has been recovered and we're now carrying out enquiries to ascertain the owner and establish the circumstances of why it was there. "We're asking for the public to help us and want to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or anything that seemed out of the ordinary in the area over the past week or so. What like shooting? Edited March 19, 2014 by HDAV

Kes
Same thing happened down here a couple of years - it was an unregistered gun, not on the national database, well maintained, and obviously used for poaching - sent an ARV to collect from the hedge where it was found by a keen-eyed passer-by.
