At 1.10pm on Tuesday, March 18, police received a call from a member of the public walking their dog, that a weapon had been found in bushes in Woodhorn Road, near to Woodhorn Colliery Museum.

Officers attended and a shotgun and ammunition were recovered.

Officers are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area over the past week or so to contact them as it may help in their enquiries.

Northumberland Chief Inspector Peter Reeve said: "On Tuesday, we responded to a report a firearm had been found in bushes in Ashington. The weapon has been recovered and we're now carrying out enquiries to ascertain the owner and establish the circumstances of why it was there.

"We're asking for the public to help us and want to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or anything that seemed out of the ordinary in the area over the past week or so.

looks intresting me M8 left his single barrel 12G on the roof and drove off years ago.

he called into the local nick ,small place, to be greeted by "lost summit by any chance?"

lucky for him some nice people were behind him when it fell off and handed it in .

got called to do a dive to recover a lost 12g in a local estate lake , went overboard out of a boat!

wonder if someone nipped home to get there dinner and left all the gear in the hide

Same thing happened down here a couple of years - it was an unregistered gun, not on the national database, well maintained, and obviously used for poaching - sent an ARV to collect from the hedge where it was found by a keen-eyed passer-by.
