kent
To explain if its spot on at 40 and 80 it will shoot high of the point of aim somewhere between these two ranges and be progressively lower after 80 yards. Its not shooting totally flat. Its easier to draw than explain but the line of sight (aim point) is as flat as a pancake being just a visual reference. But the bullet will drop progressively more from the instant it leaves the muzzle. At the muzzle the bullet will strike low until you reach the first intersection of line of sight (drop under gravity will be so little you will not see it occurring it will just print progressively higher ), the bullet at this first intersection (40 yards you say) then goes over the line of sight til it reaches "peak trajectory" over the line of sight and then drops down under the effect of gravity crossing the line of sight on its downwards trajectory (in your case 80 yards). At no pint past this will it shoot anything but progressively lower . The trick to getting the best out of a trajectory is to zero as far as you can in terms of range while not getting to high a peak trajectory over the line of sight (aim point) at this mid point.
