pin
I assume you mean the handily-made-out-of-meat as opposed to rather unpalatable made-out-of-plates type?
Cranfield
I think what pin is trying to say in his cryptic manner, is are you interested in pigeon shooting, or clay pigeon shooting ? For a few reasons, clay shooting might be your best bet initially. Its easier to meet and get to know people at a clay ground and you would also get the chance to sharpen up your shooting ability, before tackling the live birds. pin
Sorry mate was trying to be funny, should have learned by now I aint Deffo worth getting used to a gun and shooting a bit of the old plates first, but I am sure someone close by might take you out (without gun) and show you what its all about. At the moment mate we are just about all struggling to find any birds. Bumper natural harvest of beach mast and acorns combined with unseasonably mild weather has kept them stuffed full of food and almost totally uninterested in decoying onto rape (or anything else for that matter). pin
I wouldn't blame global warming but that's another topic On the shotty front its best to have a few turns at a club ( try looking in this pdf ) trying as many guns as you can first before you buy something. You will only end up regretting it, selling it and buying something else - trust me Oh, we know your from Bracknell area, but edit your profile and put some details in, a lot on here won't reply unless that's filled in a bit (just rough location is more than enough)

pin
Some lads love them, some hate them. Whatever choice you make, make it an informed one You wouldn't buy a car without a test drive...
fireash123
so would they hold that sort of gun at the clay clubs fence bpost a? i killed a pigeon with a broom handle once. it kept flying the same way out of this tree. so i had a little bet with some work mates that i could hit a pigeon in mid air. so i did
pin
Clay clubs don't tend to "hold" guns as such, its going to be you trying out a few people's guns. Clay grounds (commercial outfits) will more often than not have guns you can use and go round with a caddy or instructor. Many have a shop and gun room, good ones will let you try a second hand gun out on the clays if you are interested in buying one.
Highlander
Welcome sure you're a fireman and not an arsonist Mind you on here it probably wouldn't matter Don’t take too much notice of pin, he’s off the wall most of the time. Doesn’t mean he’s not a nice person though. My advice (if you’re new to the sport) is go get some proper lessons first. Don’t use your mates for tuition, I know it’s cheap but you’ll only learn their bad habits and not even know it! You say you're currently applying for a SGC then no doubt you’ll want to buy a gun so ask in your local gun shop about clay clubs/grounds and ask to test something’s. Most good gunsmiths wouldn’t have a problem with that. Two grounds near you (Bracknell) might be worth a look…Bisley for sure as it’s all there, sporting, trap, skeet, DTL etc etc and there’s a small ‘Sunday’ club at Deep Cut on the MOD land which is excellent. There are plenty of others and any local gunshop will be able to tell you where. A commercial ground like Bisley will cost you but your more likely to find the professionals there to teach you rather than Sunday school amateurs who with the best will in the world are not the right place to start. But whoever you find to teach you make sure you’re comfortable with them and have confidence in them. Beginners to shooting shouldn’t IMO start with live quarry. Get the feel of a gun first; learn the safety aspects and the etiquette also learn to shoot properly. You’ll get a whole lot more out of the sport then. All the best. SS Or b etter still, say you were p****d and not telling the truth when you said it! but i did it was all a lie. but it is bad if it was true, a gun like that could have a lot of sentimental value but the law cares not about that, so what would one do in that situation? njc110381
If your gran is still around, say you found it in the attic and would like it put on your cert. Don't tell them you've had it for years already!
pin
Someone who comes into possession of a shotgun via someone passing or the like can apply to the police for a temporary permit to allow them to take it to an RFD for safe keeping or for disposal. They also have the option of that permit covering them until they apply, or if they are a cert holder they can have it added to their ticket.
