pstenson123
When mink are around chickens would they kill them all or just kill one to feed themselves? My friend has just phoned me to say he'd fed the chucks this morning before going to work & called back home at 10 o'clock for a quick brew only to find all his chucks dead, I said to him it's a fox that's dome that , killed em all & only took 2 away, but his wife took a photo of a mink in there garden yesterday near the chicken pen. There is foxes round there aswell , we've shot loads. What's hour thoughts? If I've posted this in the wrong section can some one move it please. Thanks. Penelope
A mink will happily go through the lot. When mink are around chickens would they kill them all or just kill one to feed themselves? TR1
Mink will also set up a larder. Check the back of the head for bite marks. The problem with mink is that they can climb like a squirrel and will be over a wire fence in no time. Edited April 15, 2014 by TR1

islandgun
Mink will take off the heads. they will also kill the lot and as mentioned have a larder. the most conclusive evidence is that one was seen. I worked as a trapper here (western Isles) and they are easy to trap with a live catch trap, baited in this case with a bit of hen (of which you have plenty!) or lie in wait with a shotgun, however you may find there are more than one so it would be a good idea to set a few traps before considering buying new Hens
