robbiep
All air pistols are capped at 6 ft/lbs power (half that of an air rifle). I can't recall where I've read it, but I'm moderately certain that they are defined as not being sufficient to ensure a humane kill, so are not suitable. Though I'm also pretty sure that if you got a perfect head shot at 10 yards or less, a clean kill would be likely. Far more likely is a wounding shot though, and the creature escaping wounded. All comments are welcome No. You also need to comply with the terms of the general licence to shoot pigeons.
Blunderbuss
Hello everyone, I got 92FS few months ago,and i was wonder, could that gun kill pests like rats and pigeons from 10-15 yards in single hit? All comments are welcome Hello mate, welcome to the forum. Good on you for asking the question before doing it, but your pistol is no where near sufficient power to shoot live quarry. The legal limit for air pistols is 6 foot pounds, and a pistol which approaches that does have enough power for rats if, and it's a big if, it's in the hands of a very skillful shooter at close range. I think your pistol, like most of the Umarex range is nearer 2 ft/lb. No matter how good a shot your are this is not enough to guarantee a humane kill. A pigeon is even less of a humane proposition. People shooting rats with full power air rifles (12 ft/lb) generally go for head shots to guarantee a swift, humane kill. A rat's brain is a tiny target and there aren't many pistol shooters who could consistently hit them. I know they look "cool" but CO2 pistols which are replicas of centrefire revolvers and semi autos are seriously underpowered. They are OK for back garden plinking, but that's it. GingerCat
No, Maybe an hw45 if your a great shot and the range was less than 10 yards on rats. But it's a big maybe just because it's so much more difficult with a pistol let alone with the reduced powerbas well, a cheapish rifle would sort the issue in a heartbeat
