Guest mel b2
Hi guys i would like to ask a legal question if i could . i know it is a no no to hunt live quarry with an air pistol but is it legal to use an air pistol as a humane means of despatch for trapped squirrels sorry if its a dopey question. if it isnt legal could anyone advise me on any other humane method.i would also like to pass on my thanks for the advice that was given to me a short time ago regarding shooting rooks and crows i have put most of the advice to good use with very good results the only problem is the crows seem to learn things faster than me :yp: .the only thing i havent tried yet is the teddy bear with big eyes(mainly scared of the farmer seeing me wandering around with a teddy under my arm)but next weekend i will be gritting my teeth and trying it so i may be looking for a new shoot as of next saturday cheers guys
leon
No legal reason why not, Use them all the time normally kills well to but on very rare ocassions it does take a second shot to finnish the job thats why i bought a co2 repeater. Cranfield
I believe your only legal obligation is to despatch any quarry, as humanely as possible. A close range head shot should kill a trapped squirrel. I find a piece of 2x2 works just as well.
F150
I think a couple of reds would be quite obliging to do the job!! :yp:
Teal
Most of the time when you approach a trap the squirrel will be pretty active to say the least! Wait, make sure its still before you take the shot to avoid wounding. I used to use an airifle from 30 yards that way they just sit nicely for you in the trap to ensure a clean kill. Vermin Dropper
At work a couple of years ago (Fire Service) we were called to a squirrel stuck behind a radiator in a house. Me being "The animal bloke" had the task of removing it, just before I released it, it bit right through my fire glove and well into my finger! :yp: Like you say, funny how the painfull ones stick with you! dodeer
Break the squirrels neck. I use this method of you cooking them or if you have no gun. Get a hessian sack and drop the squirrel into it. Close at the pen end and grab it neck with thumb and index finger making a collar around the neck, than procide to put the other hands thumb and fore finger and snap the neck resulting in instant ,humane death. Or a good 50g BB does the job!
