Starting my own business

Set up a web page - pictures of your work, a bit about yourself. Put it on a brochure/leaflet with your business card and start knocking on doors, or posting in letterboxes. It takes time to build up a business and reputation, and you can lose it in an instant - so be honest, and good at what you do.

No doubt you'll be competing with those who are already well established and doing it in your area? Is there any chance you could sub' to any of these to get a 'toe in'?

Don't waste a lot of money on advertising; don't forget your best advertisement is your work. Your work has to be top notch as farmers are a tight bunch and word gets around in small communities.

Cold calling with a business card and a well mannered personality can work wonders, as can demonstrating your work at country fairs, agricultural shows etc. good luck.

Also dont forget local builders who are working for cashed up clients in your area, drystone walling is signature 'well -off' resident so theres another market - start in an area where competition is less so do a bit of door-knocking first.
