What constitutes a firearm (in my case!)?

Recommended Posts

I've taken my .22LR (Anschutz 525) to pieces as the stock has always been tatty and I'm going to refurbish it, and give everything else a decent clean in the meantime.

Just wondering what bits need to be locked up. I've put the barrel, receiver and bolt in the cabinet but not sure if this is overkill. I'm presuming the barrel needs to be secured as you can't buy a spare one without a spare slot (or is that wrong?)

I know when it comes to shotguns, the general advice is that as long as the barrels are locked away and the rest of the gun is in bits then its all good...

not sure on section 1 guns though! a quick call to your FLO should give you the official answer... it will probably differ from force to force, just like everything else!

Does a mod. not need to be secured, then? I lock mine in my ammo cabinet, as it happens

For an FAC S.1 component = i.e. a sound moderator....er, YES....locked up, same as the ammunition; don't believe everything you read on t'interweb

Airgun moderator = nope

My airgun mod is locked up anyway (does seem a bit bizarre that my PH mod could be bought without a licence to put on an airgun but suddenly becomes restricted because I want to fit it to a firearm)

Thanks for the replies, anyway

Sorry. I meant that I generally take what would count as a firearm (or part of), and thus subject to security requirements as 'pressure bearing parts'. But I was pointing out that a moderator is not 'pressure bearing' but IS viewed as a firearm, so security applies.

Ah, that makes more sense
