Hi Steve

It's nice to see a post that identifies the species correctly. The son in law and his mate had a bit of a trim up of jackdaws the other weekend on a crop that they had gotten a foothold in and were doing a lot of damage to, mainly by trampling it down.

Good shooting Steve, there's definitely tell plenty of jack daws around here, surprised you didn't get a couple of magpies having a nose on the outskirts, there seems to be stacks around this year.

Most of the Magpies are in the woods. We were in open fields, and despite putting 2 magpie decoys on the wall behind us, we didn't see any.
