dadrew
Hi guys, I have just been granted my FAC and am hopefully picking up second hand BRNO tomorrow.I know there are a number of different types of round on the market, so the question is, which one should I buy to knock of a few rabbits please? dadioles
Buy a box of each of the .22lr subsonic expanding ammunition types that your local dealer has in stock and is likely to stock in the future. Spend a few hours in the field shooting targets at 50 or 60 yards and see which ammo chambers smoothly and reliably and above all gives you the tightest groups. Now stick to that one and don't change. Next, zero your rifle using that chosen ammunition and work out the drop at different ranges from, say, 20 yards to 80 yards. Your maximum range for bunny shooting is whatever distance you can place EVERY shot with the area of a 2p coin.
kent
Impossible to say, you need to test it. Favourites might include SK, RWS and Eley in hunting type subsonics. Yours might well like something else. What needs remembering is the gun and ammo can only produce the accuracy if its steered correctly. superspark
Last night "early evening" I just put 100 rounds of subsonic 40grain winchesters through my new cz452 style at 60 meters with good results. Also put a few cyclone high volosity rounds through, more noise but fairly accurate at 60 meters, mind you, a lot harder hitting.

Distance - Group size - Stick or Bipod And the next person who says their .22lr is almost silent has obviously spent too much time having their hearing damaged in a disco. rimfire4969
My 22 rimfire likes Winchester best, so thats what i use. I think mine is not silent but it is very quiet and proberly near silent down range where i can take out 5 or 6 rabbits without them doing a Usain Bolt. superspark
Dadioles, lol, yes it went bang and yes I hit the targets. I have a sak mod on my rifle and using subs its very quiet infact as quite as my moderated pcp. Groupings of an inch and a half using a bipod resting on top of my ranger bonnet. 40 grain Winchester bullets. Thats my definition of "good results". I have spent too much time in a disco (circa 1975) and my hearing isn't what it was. Oh and my .22LR is silent bar the pin strike. At the gun end a moderated .22 Subsonic should only sound like a dry fire, the rest of the noise is reflected back from the bullet impact. I know there are not many places you can do this but when fired into clean air without a backstop they will surprise even experienced users, the same is true when you fire a moderated cf rifle into a soft object at 8 ft or less, a lot of reflected thump but totally no crack can develop to be taken as noise of powder burn by many. I use the CF example as it illustrates you can significantly quieten a lot more powder and primer than contained in a .22 RF case.
