sandspider
Hi all. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a company for a week's breakdown cover in France? Gf has aa membership on the car already so will ask about bolt ons, but knowing the aa it will be expensive. Cheers.
fenboy
Are you driving the whole week or is it a trip where you are just driving there and back and parked up in between ? There are a few company's that will just insure the days you drive where as the AA charge for the whole week. What ever the cost do not go without it as I can tell you from experience its a very costly affair if you do suffer a breakdown.
sandspider
Driving for the whole week. In a fairly aged car! Yeah, I def want to get some sort of cover in place. Better check on the Insurance situation too.
fenboy
Most of the insurance policies have small print that says the car needs to have been serviced to the makers recommendations , so if it has not then it may cause a problem , they mostly charge more the older the motor is too My advice would be if you can afford it to hire a car , that will have the required breakdown cover, you can then thrash it down the autoroutes to your hearts content ! sandspider
Cheers. Did think about that, but we want to go Dover - Calais and come back Le havre to Portsmouth. So it makes hiring a car difficult as we couldn't return it to the same place.
everycal
Look at money supermarket. Often cheaper to buy 12 months inc EU.
fenboy
There may be a local hire company that could sort you out , if you hired near where you live it would not be a problem . Hope you get sorted. I am going again September Newhaven -Dieppe , first time I have done that route.
NickB65
When we drove from France to Holland we increased the AA cover for the week and some stupidly cheap price and it covered us for all three countries - FRANCE BELGIUM and HOLLAND. Didn't need it but felt so much better knowing it was there.....
sandspider
Thanks all. We'll manage it, somehow!
amateur
I have used AA, RAC and Green Flag over the last 40 years of driving abroad. Only ever needed to call on RAC and Green Flag once each - both very good, but Green Flag was cheaper.

sandspider
Just seen this - not getting the emails of new posts for some reason. Thanks Miki - we went with the AA in the end as we already have some AA cover. And, of course, the car was fine! Though the boot catch broke so we couldn't open it, but there are far worse things to go wrong when driving abroad!
