demonwolf444
Made a throwing trap out of some spring steel. Its a lot of fun and is based on a trap i have seen at the royal armouries. For projectiles we made a little clingfilm bag and packed it with a handfull of flour. It throws the projectile about 35 feet up and about 50 feet forward, so its not amazing in that it takes a while to cock and it would be faster and as effective to throw it by hand, but its more fun this way! It is made from two leafs from the front of an old landrover, a metal cup found in the workshop, and an old hinge as the trigger latch which is released by a piece of billy band. You stand on the leafs and compress them down, pull the string to engage the latch where the two square nuts on the hinge hold it down when you pull the string the bolts disengage from the leaf freeing it and allowing the projectile to be fired. It has now been put on a new piece of wood with a bar across it to allow it to be weighted down in position. I added an extra leaf although it is now only possible to cock it by putting a metal bar across the leafs with two people standing either side to hold it in a cocked position while a third person engages the trigger. Coming towards you it will be a very challenging target. You could put a long string on it and set it 20 yards away and it would present a very challenging going away target also. Just a bit of fun i thought i would share with you.

demonwolf444
You have to love it, the broken hinge, the rotten board, the rusty lead spring, and the knotted billy band. The best projects are simple, free, and effective! To be fair the new wood was just some scrap that was not rotted, its was bit of a safety concern as there is a lot of pressure from the spring on the bolts through the wood. ditchman
you could make dozens of them and sell them to gamekeepers.....remove the cup and replace with a boxing glove ...they will plant them near the pens and unsuspecting thieves will go down with their gonads punched out..... demonwolf444
It would be cool to me to relate myself to a Yorkshire family of heritage, however demonwolf as my name on here was entirely a random choice. My full name being James Reynolds, and Rowley on my mothers side. So far as military history is concerned aside from service in the great war and second world war the only thing i can find is a Captain in the new model ( i think!? ) who fought at the battle of Marston Moor.
