Marccus
I am in exactly the same boat here! I was really keen to buy a Maxus but cannot find one with a decent well figured stock. I have ruled out Benelli as they don't seem to fit me. This weekend I am hoping to try a Beretta A400 Xcel (the Blue one!!!) and Xplor. Now reading this, I will also take a look at the Winchester SX3. Mainly use the gun for clay pigeon but also for pigeon and crow shooting. I look forward to see which you buy. Westley
Personally I would stick with the Beretta. I had the Winchester Fannygun and it clanked like an old Landrover on firing. I tried a NEW Maxus and the forend felt like it was always going to drop off and it can not be easily tightened. It was so loose it was very offputting. My 391 has had 1000's of rounds through it without any problem whatsoever and that includes 24 and 21 grams. The 391 is a bit of a pig to clean compared to my 303, which, in my view was the best gun that Beretta ever made in an auto, it is just a tad ammo fussy. Although I have never owned or handled a 300, the reports that I have heard have all been to the good. The Remmie is OK if you do not have to carry it far, but steer clear of the 1187, it never quite made the grade when compared to the handling of the old 1100. Do not worry too much about the shims for the stock, they are easily obtained, should you need them, but I feel that the factory fitted shim will be OK unless you are of unusual proportions. The Benelli, well I suggest that you try one before you buy it. I found that the clanking and recoil was a bit off, but the biggest problem was hitting anything with it. Several people at the local clay club tried it and only 1 person could hit anything. I still do not know why, it seemed to fit everyone OK, but the one Guy that could use it was left handed. The gun was a definite right hander though. So there you go, if you decide to buy the Hatstand, then make sure it works OK within the first couple of weeks. I have seen some good and some bloody awful Hatstands, but they are cheap.
Richie10
Got a maxus and although alot of people don't like the fore end if you get over that it's a great gun, never jammed for me. The speed load and speed unload function is great for me. Is light and sucks up recoil. Can't wait to get back on the foreshore and try it out on the wildfowl.
