weddings

Things are different nowadays. I went to my first wedding for quite a few years recently. The 'favours' were small gifts, photos, bubbles etc. disposable cameras on tables. A photo booth for guests. A pick 'n' mix sweet trolley. Professional video camerman X 2 all evening. Magician. Bongo player. Saxophonist (all in addition to DJ). Massive cost but no free bar.

In my day a wedding was a ceremony, a meal, a DJ and a free bar.

And what's with this "oh we don't need any gifts but if you would like to make a contribution to our honeymoon in the Seychelles" lark. Yea right would they like to make a contribution to my luxury holiday? No I didn't think so.

It's all wrong.

I wouldnt say it was wrong...

No free bar at my wedding, if my guests wanted to get battered, why i should i pay for it?

There was plenty of wine on the tables for the meals, which were also free.

Free food provided at the evening do too...

Me and my wife have been living together for 5 years so already have a house full of things. Was it wrong to ask that if someone felt the need to give us a gift that it was a small token of money to go towards making our honeymoon even more special?

As it happened, the money we recieved from our friends and family paid for a once in a lifetime dream of ours to enable us to go swimming with dolphins.

Something neither of us will ever forget.

It's as expensive as you make it.

Friends of ours have done it for £4k. We had a big doo at Mitton Hall in Whalley Clitheroe which worked out to be around our max budget.

Looking back, we should of had a smaller wedding and added to our small property portfolio.
