Davyo
Sorry but I need advise again, now that I have established that my sons XBox 360 games are not compatible with the new XBox one.My wife is telling me that you can only use it live, but I dont want my son playing on it online. Is this true? Davyo
no thats not true you can play either online or just on the console. Thanks for that,my 8yr old has the 360 but thankfully only plays a couple of hrs a week if that.So I don't mind buying him the xbox one for xmas.Obviously it will get hammered over xmas but the novelty will soon wear off and he'll give it sensible usage. My main concern was, like with the 360 we do not allow online gaming but it gives him the option to just plays offline. Her indoors thought that the new xbox one had to have a live subscription even to play discs.I texted a mate whos sons already have this and he also said you have to have a online subscription. FoxyChris
You need an online connection when you first set it up but after that you never need to connect again if you don't want to.

So online connection is not a problem, but I dont have to put in my debit card details do I.
mickmep
some games are online only, be careful what you buy game wise for it.
simonm
No you don't to put in debit card details. If you want to play online multiplayer you need an Xbox Live Gold subscription but you but a pre-paid card from Amazon etc. Be aware that if you live in the sticks and have a very slow broadband connection, it can take ages to do the initial update for the console and games (the updates are pretty huge). My girlfriend bought me one as a house warming present and it was days before I could use it
onatangent
as mentioned some games use the cloud to run. forza 5 kept not loading whenever their sever died and wouldn't play if I wasn't logged into xbox live. Make sure you have a good xbox one. I had 5 before I had one that worked perfectly. Typically they can have noisy drives, repeated controller disconnection randomly due to wireless stack issue and my favourite that I had was dead out of the box

onatangent
I ended up with 18mths free xbox live gold and two games as compensation, great. Sold the console last month and sticking with faithfull 360 for now. If ps4 had xbox controller layout I would have defected to the dark side :-)
