Tikka accuracy problem sorted

Firstly, thanks to everyone who offered advice and support during this traumatic time.

After trying several good quality scopes and mounts in all configurations, some misalignment could be the only reason for POI was 2 inches right of the bull at 35 yards.

The gunshop's offer to fit and zero rails and adjustable mounts and pay for postage each way was very generous, but any work on the rifle was deemed not financially viable and a full refund was offered if I wasn't happy with the mounts and rail option.

Posted too soon.

However,I really did want to keep the stainless Optilocks, they are a thing of beauty on the m595.

So I set out to turn the optilocks inserts into offset inserts. With a 30 mm iron bar and a couple of sheets of fine sandpaper and emery paper,I reduced the thickness on one side, shooting it,sanding again until finally I have 47 clicks of adjustment to the left of the bull 103 to the right.

I might try a little more, but I'm happy with this amount of adjustment and can now keep the Optilocks so all good. Gunshop has offered some cleaning items and other bits and bobs for cost price,so happy with that.

Thanks again for all the advice, especially Karl, cheers mate.

Ok. I had lots of advice from knowledgable guys off here and from several gunsmiths, all conflicting.

Apparently 'fixing' the rifle was not an option due to cost. So I had to look at mounts. If this was a one off experience, why would Burris,Millet,Leupold make windage adjustable/offset mounts.

I didn't remove any metal from the mounts just a few thou of material from the plastic inserts, which still grip the scope firmly. This was done over the course of a few days, using a 30mm bar(some may call it lapping)taking great care, not with a Black and Decker.

A bodge maybe, but so far it works and I get to keep the rifle and optilocks.

Lapping rings is not a black art at all.

Could the problem be reversed by turning the mounts around?

Are you sure the objective end of the scope is not bent slightly?

I have never heard of a barreled action out as much as yours would have to be especially a Tikka!

Adjustable mounts are for shall we say average barreled actions but you still don't see them maxed out of thier adjustment !

If your happy great. I worry though that you will only have one horizontal zero being eather side of that at closer and further ranges!

U.

The opti loc can only go on one way, it turned out that there can be quite a bit of variance in the rail its self on tikka 595. An after market rail and ring combination can solve this, but in affect the problem is down to the limited adjustment on the scope its self, 18.75 inch @ 100 yards is quite pittyfull really but then if image quality is what you want then this is what you have to play with,

A bodge it may be. But in affect now the op has a datum to work from knowing how to solve the issue.

To rectify the problem on a more perminent basis if and scope creep issues arise would need the use of a milling machine to correct the base of the optilock its self.

I have had a think about this and have come up with a very doable solution to in affect make the rear optiloc base adjustable.

I do hope the problem is solved as it is and no further work is needed.

As in affect the only part of the rings that has been changed is the plastic insert that are quite replaceable.

What is wrong with the rifle to cause this?

My first thought was the barrel(spoke to a gunsmith who said bent barrels are more common than you would have thought). The receiver on the 595 is well-engineered,but something only needs to be a few thou out to have a huge effect downrange.

As Amazed said, the lack of adjustment on my scope is part of the problem,if I had a Nightforce I

would hardly have noticed. I'll definitely take you up on your offer if my bodge doesn't prove effective. Thanks all.
