SirDread
All I have in my possession a Clarke SxS. I believe it has Damascus barrels and a 4 digit serial number. Now is this a H Clarke and sons or just a Clarke ? Any help or dealer recommendations who can help me put a value on it.
dougall
barrels do not look like damascus? alla bout condition of gun and especially the barrels....i would guesstimate value at £400-600.
Gunman
That's an old gun ,built on the original Westley Richards patent . Could have been made by Westley but I have also seen them built under licence by Brazier better known as lock makers , their guns were marked as such under the cover plate . Is it black powder ? I have several Clarkes listed spelt with an e and several more without . As to value without seeing it and checking the barrels its is hard to estimate but non ejector guns do not realise the value they should so assuming all is OK £400to £600 would be a fair guess possibly less if it is still black powder as reproof these days is getting very strict and the gun could need more work than is financially viable if the barrels have to be struck up and consequently need re-browned. I have recently advise a customer with a similar vintage gun to leave well alone for the same reason .

Cumbrian
Good quality engraving, I would say, plus a third bite, so not a cheap gun originally, and the damascus barrels, if they are indeed that - look for the circular, spiral pattern underneath, against the light - could have been blacked at some point. The wood close to the fences looks to have been well rubbed and lost its sharp definition, however.
