Suffolk shooter
Well MC and me went to shoot our new permission for the first time today. Met the Farmer at 9am, and he took us round saying where we could and couldn't shoot. Basically no limits but for near one house and one Riding school. We were allowed to roam the woodlands as well as the fields. SO seeing as we sttod at the highest point on the farm and watched three or four large floks flighting between two woods over some flailed covercrop, we thought this would be the best place to start. But not before we decided to do our bit for vermin control, and took out a couple of rats that were extremley fat and along with the other six or so, running brazenly around a concrete pad. The first one I shot must have though he was in the Olympic high jump, as he seemed to launch himself vertically a couple of times, before landing. The second a snap shot as one ran out the back to escape. All in all the pigeon shooting was abit of a let down in terms of decoying them , as once we had set up on ther filed of rape and flailed cover crop, we had birds come over , but none wanted to commit themselves and yet we didn't seemingly spook them either. Twice large flocks came over, flew round twice as if to commit, but then gradually gained height and carried on. How frustrating We ended up going into one of the woods and shooting the dreys, to ensure we helped the gamekeeper in his vermin control and got three squirrels, oh and the one pigeon that MC shot as it flighted over head. So total for the day was: - One Pigeon Two rats Three squirrels. Next time we'll get there earlier. SS
Stealth Stalker
One Pigeon Two rats Three squirrels. That little lot should make a nice pie SS You should refrain from shooting out the dreys, it has been known for non target species to use old dreys You wouldn't want to shoot a kestrel/owl or something The gamekeeper on the estate I beat on has 6x 6ft drey poking poles & its great sport giving the nest a poke & having 7 squirrels burst out to the awaiting guns Then when the inhabitants have been shot we rake down the dreys, thinking about it we should get out & do a bit of poking soon ourselves. Tree rats were seen running into those we shot. Therefore i think it's safe to assume that there were only squirrels in them otherwise we would have seen the Kerfuffle as tree rat and BoP met in the midst of the drey. But I take your point, will think before I fire. SS (The slightly younger and good looking one of course):(

lurcherboy
If they are going to and from the woods they will probably be doing the same to roost. Sleep in very late, have artery killing fry-up at a greasy spoon, tear MC away from IT porn and have a blinding roost shoot  Its just an idea LB
