activeviii
Quick question for someone in the know. I have a dent in a stock, looks like a cartridge scuff. Stock is on a fabarm axis field. So say its oiled. If I steam out the stock will if draw all the oil out. I don't want to start stripping it all back and tru-oil back. Can I steam the dent out without causing a load of work and hassle as I real Y don't need hassle just yet. TIA Phil
Gordon R
If it is a genuine oil finish - steam away. I did one a couple of months ago on one of my Salvinelli Monacos. Nasty ding from a broken clay. I wasn't holding out too much hope, but it has disappeared.
activeviii
Thanks Gordon, did it draw the oil out? The stock had a blonde area from where the cheek welds so was not sure whether to leave that and just oil all the stock or just leave it alone and get on with it. Gordon R
The finish remained much the same. It didn't discolour it. I rubbed a bit of Schaftol gun stock oil into the affected are. I can't see where it was now. Edited December 12, 2014 by Gordon R
welshwarrior
If it's a proper oil finish just get on and steam it out, a light rub with oooo wire wool may be needed then a light coat of stock oil. If it's Tru oil or a varnish it's harder.
