Mungler
Give the Land Registry a buzz and tell them your problem. They will probably tell you to do an Index Map search which will list all the registered titles against any particular area. Index map searches I believe are free, but obtaining office copy entries for each title (so you can find out who owns what) will cost a couple of quid for each title. You could try starting a small fire on the land and when the police arrest you, get the name of the bloke who will be pressing the charges. dunganick
or bury a body there and make a tip off to the police, the landowner fella will be in the newspaper within the week, and you will know where to find him for the next 10 years
Cranfield
Your best bet is to keep looking round the area until you find someone on a tractor, or working in a field and ask them. Call at nearby Farms, or check out the local Pub, I have had to do all of these things. One set of really good fields I watched for ages (I live in Kent), were owned by a bloke in Norfolk and rented to an Agricultural Contractor from Essex. They only spent about 4 weeks a year on the fields, cultivated, sowed, fertilized and reaped. Always grew wheat and rape in rotation. It took me a year to find the right bloke to talk to.
