michufc
Hi to all I have had my l200 double cab for a year now and my kids keep saying it's really bumpy in the back and my wife's complained about it. So I have asked santa for some gas shocks for the rear hoping this should sort it. Now I didn't admit it to the wife but it is really bouncy has anyone else come across this Or is it just the way they are. Oh and it's usually just got three spaniels in the back and a Ifor Williams canopy so that's light weight Regards mike
billytheghillie
could be the leave springs.
la bala
Dont know if it is an old model, but have you checked the springs. My son in law had the old K24 type and had rear spring leafs broke twice Edited December 21, 2014 by la bala
michufc
No I think it's the k74 model and the leaf springs look like they got changed as the u bolts are all new ish looking
billytheghillie
if it turns out to be the leave spring, renew the 2 of them, **** law says when one goes the other one follows shortly.

WGD
+1... It's designed to carry weight, put some ballast in the back. They are as hard as a sports car to take a ton in the back. The less you have in them the more bouncy they are. michufc
Do you think the gas shocks will help the ride though or am I wasting santas time
felly100
You could try running the tyres on the lowest psi for your set up.
la bala
Do you think the gas shocks will help the ride though or am I wasting santas time Are you saying it is a sloppy bouncy ride, or a hard bouncy ride where the wheels are jumping off the road
billytheghillie
save your money, get someone to check the leave springs, that's what went on mine.

la bala
The ride is quite hard almost a jolt If the ride is hard, go with what has been suggested and put some weight in the back, i thought you meant a soft bouncy ride
chippy18
They all bounce about with no weight in. I changed my rear springs for the light work version that milners 4x4 sell. It made it a little better but they still bounce. I have just got used to it.
al4x
If the shackles look new then odds are it's had new springs. It will settle down a bit and you will get more used to it. I wouldn't bother carrying a load for the sake of it personally.
michufc
Just a quick update I have brought some new gas dampers for Xmas and today I managed to get started on changing the pair. So when I got the first one of there was no resistance what's so ever the ram just fell back inside so I managed to get one side done before I lost the light so I will do the other side in the morning and let you know Cheers mike
Thelongwayup
My L200 has a hard ride due to having heavy duty leaf springs on the back for all the heavy stuff I cart round at times. If i'm not carrying weight then I generally put 7 bags of sand in the back and a board over the top with carpet on it so I can still put general stuff in there without puncturing the bags. Gives me some weight over the back end in slippery conditions and softens the ride up for day to day running. Losing 100mm of height in the back isn't a big issue at all. michufc
Well I managed to change the other damper today after a bit of heat on the bolts and my fingers they were colder than polor bears brass monkeys. Well after the road test with the kids and other half you could tell a massive difference. Now I know it's never going to ride like the Audi but it is much better now.thanks for all your responses and if we have anymore bad weather I will put some sand bags in as for the Audi my wife had a lucky escape last night coming down the lanes she had a major blow out lucky enough she managed to stop safely with no harm done after all it's only metal and that can be replaced
