Prawn
hi all,Having never tried partridge on a little pheasant/duck shoot i am a part off, i was wondering the answer to this question.Would partridge fly off a covercrop (where their pen would be) down a hill into a wood or would they fly to the side into the middle of the field? Thanks all
fielddweller
Very unlikely unless it's been thinned out and they can see through it. Atb Fielddweller
Scully
We used to find ours all over the place, but never IN a wood, and this was in the warmer months. As soon as the shooting season started we never saw any at all.
MattSoanes
If seen them pushed from maize into a wood where the guns are lined out on a ride, some would carry over the guns others would lite into the front of the wood and then be flushed again when the beaters went in. Arley
As above, One of our best drives most of the partridge fly over the wood, but some always settle in the wood to be flushed by the beaters when they bring the wood through. ezi bez
Buy the partridge as poults and put the pen in the wood and stedily release as usual and you should find they eill go back when flushed from cover hope this helps atb ezi. hindhunter
Hi Prawn, the answer is basically Yes, but it depends on yours woods and cover I have a game crop above a larch wood and the redlegs regularly fly in during a drive and are then flushed out by the beaters. Feeding today I come upon a covey feeding at a feeder in an open oak wood and they love gorse, so if you have an understorey or wood edge of gorse they love to hang around the gorse for security and warmth, they especially like flaked maize hand fed into and underneath the gors
