glb8686
Noticed rust on my barrels since my cabinet got sodden with condensation (only just dried the stock out!) it looks a little much to he rubbed off with wire wool etc. What's the best option to bring them back to 100%? Strip and reblue at a gunsmith? Any idea on cost etc? Also the damp had been dried out but the stock has actually come away from the action at the side of the top lever to the tune of about 1mm. What can be done about this?

RichardH
reblueing barrels costs around £200 notes all in Budget on less than half that if you find someone who actually does the work rather than farms it out
demonwolf444
Proper barrel blacking is not cheap - if its not something that's really your pride and joy or heirloom i would either find someone who does something serviceable or do it yourself. Rust, boil, card, repeat. Normally for any bluing job they will strip the barrels right back polish and degrease them before starting. What is the gun in question, 1mm away from the metal work is fairly significant.... could the damp of opened up a crack in the stock i wonder? how sodden did the wood get... how did you dry it out? Best wishes, James.

Underdog
Get some of that antique wax. Next time smother it on the gun. I use a mix of candle wax and olive oil melted together to make a soft wax. It does not irritate the skin which means you can get it all over the hands and rub it in the steel. I don't get rusting guns any more! U.
