kennett
Afternoon all, does any one know why my diesel pump has suddenly started intermittently running for several seconds after I turn my van off? Can also sometimes feel humming away when I stop at junctions. Sounds like an expensive sort of noise!!
la bala
Stop putting Vimto in it.

Lord Geordie
Fuel pump solonoid, or you have oil dropping into the cylinders at a guess! Could also be getting fed through a failing turbo?
kennett
That is just a few of the expensive sounding noises I had though of!
oliver90owner
Sticky stop solenoid is the most likely, especially if there is no turbo fitted! The seating plug may also be damaged, allowing fuel past on occasions. So Lord Geordie is likely spot on with the diagnosis. If a failing turbo, get it fixed ASAP or the engine may 'run away'. Now that would be expensive - see utoob for turbo run away. Not common, but not nice. Questions regarding turbo might be whether it happens when the turbo is spooling down or whether engine oil consumption is rising. Hope it is a simple and cheap fix. kennett
Is there any other sign of a failing turbo? It has been doing it most of the winter, but only got time now to do something about it!
Lord Geordie
IF the engine starts running away while stationary! Quick as possible, handbrake on, footbrake firmly pressed! Drop the gearbox into 2nd and quickly lift your foot off the clutch and stall the engine. If you don't it will suck up all the oil from the bottom end and trash the engine! kennett
Yer I know about that, just wondered if there were any subtle pre run away signs!! Spoke to the fitter at work, he seems to think it could be a sticky solenoid as it is otherwise running and sounding fine, and using no more oil than normal
