margun
Another year, another pit story. Not painting shooting in a good light I'm afraid...is the BASC PR machine oiled and on this? Who knows if our animal rights chums have elaborated somewhat? If they haven't then what's going on here is disgraceful and needs to be flushed out. http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/secret-photos-released-of-dozens-of-pheasants-dumped-into-a-pit-victims-of-uk-shooting-industry-10045528.html
Cranfield
The clarification is in this statement from the article. "The managers of the photographed site, operated by Polesdon Estates Ltd, told The Independent that all birds shot on its land were either given to participants in shoots or sold to a registered game dealer. They said the only birds disposed of were those which were not fit for sale." Birds rejected by the Game Dealer and the unused parts of culled deer. Move along, nothing to see here. Westley
I feel certain that these photographs appeared in a newspaper last year.
LeadWasp
No mention of the trespass of the activists then...................... and in a fit of contradictory stupidness they say 40 carcasses proves that birds don't get used in the food chain...when Toni Shephard has earlier said "around 500 birds" can be shot in a day. So if this instance is held by them to prove to be a 'standard' days practice for a shoot then in order to fit in with LACS claims we're missing the other 450 birds. Oh, they'll have flown off wounded no doubt having been shot by "inexpereinced shooters" and "children" (to quote LACS). "but also challenge the claim that birds shot for sport are overwhelmingly used as food and sold to supermarkets or butchers." I would say 450 is overwhelming - and she's got a bloody PhD! Given LACS propensity for civil actions coupled with a pretty bad hit rate could they be declared vexatious litigants? - any solicitors out there?
