moorvale55
Ring your FLO and ask if has been cleared for any calibre, if it has then happy days, if not then request a visit and get the land checked.

Jonty
Duckman, I suspect you'll have the same FEO as me - I'm in Skipton. I've had my FAC a while now but got my first grant on 350 acres for .22lr, .17hmr and 22.250 so pretty similar to your application. The FEO's here are brilliant, plain speaking and very reasonable. I requested the two rim fires as I wanted the .22 for close work and also quiet work around the farm buildings and the .17 for longer range rabbiting and also as where we shoot has a lot of limestone I wanted something thatwasn't prone to ricochet. I didn't have to justify anything, more a case of recognising that both rimfires were different tools for different jobs. On the North Yorks Firearms website there is also a nominated land form - a permission slip so to speak, it's not mandatory to use it, but it has boxes for the landowner to tick as to what quarry you can shoot on the land. If farmer has ticked fox, then that's your justification covered for a fox suitable calibre, simple as that. With reference to the land being cleared, again, North Yorks tend to issue an open ticket based on the principle that it is you pulling the trigger irrespective of whether the ground is cleared for .22, .223 or .308 and the responsibility of making the decision is ultimately down to you. If there hasn't been any one shooting FAC on your farm before they may well take a look to see the lie of the land and question you about it during your interview. If it would help you out, I'd be happy to have a chat with you RE your application, or go for a walk round the farm with you (absolutely no strings attached) then if you were asked about it during your interview then you could at least say you've already been round it and discussed backstops/topology etc with another FAC holder. Basically, they are a very good to deal with firearms dept, busy with long waiting times, but very straightforward to deal with. Good luck with your application - it'll take a while but it's worth it.
