pigeonblasterian
Out for another go at the pigeons today but should have stayed at home as the fog never lifted. On arrival at the farm a good flock of pigeons were feeding on the ploughed maize I got set up at 1000am this morning and waited for the sun to come out as promised by the weather man. Had to set the brolly up for a hide as it was a cold wind again. Shot the first bird at 1020 and thought i might be in for another decent day. As the day went on i hardly saw anything flying but saw some pigeons were feeding on another maize strip. I had not taken any bird scarers with me today but i clearly should have. I could only see the length of one field because of the fog. I had to put gloves on again today because it was so cold so much for the sun coming out. I ended with ten woodpigeon for a stint of just over four hours. I have no spring barley drillings anywhere to shoot on. So just waiting for the peas and hoping some will go in at the end of the month.
Fuddster
i have been out for several hours each day from saturday til yeaterday-shooting over a mix of drilled barley and beans within 10 miles of york. total bag 14 pigeon and 8 crows. I had pencilled in this week as having some good bags and took some time from work but its been hard going even by last years standards. I could have shot today but the early frost and aching knees persuaded me towards a 'net mending' day and I feel better for, as i suspect the dog does too. its back to work tomorrow with three days sceduled for next week to make amends. keep at it. f. I was just outside York near dunnington on the A64 on Saturday and saw lots of fields with bird scares on them decoy hawkes on poles to keep birds off the fields... May be worth knocking on a few doors if your local..
