Is the garage heated? Might have to watch out for temperature fluctuations. Also your local firearms officer should be able to give you a heads up if the location is acceptable.

I meant to add, is your garage attached or detached?

I've never found the firearms officers to be overly fussy. They prefer it out of sight, especially from outside, but your responsibility is simply to take reasonable measures to 'prevent unauthorised access' to firearms. A cabinet is a good idea and obviously the police prefer them, but it's not in fact a legal requirement. Since you seem to have a fairly sophisticated security setup anyway, just get a cab and bolt it to a solid wall. Inside the living area would be best but an attached garage or extension, accessed from inside, is a situation I've had signed off in 2 different houses - and in both cases the cab could be seen from outside and by visitors.

Don't feel that you have to defend against the firearms equivalent of the Hatton Garden jewel thieves...

the reason for the garage as it the only space I have and the loft and I know that gets cold up their their 5 of us in a three bed until the 22 year old or the 18 year old moves out we are stuck (we know the kids cant afford to move out these days) and being an engineer I can fit a small tube heater inside the cabinet the reason for the cabinet is I would like to apply for a fac licence some time in the future ps I have a waredrobe in the garage as well so could hide it in their and bolt through the wardrobe to the wall or floor
