felix-da-house-mouse
I have just placed a deposit on a nice browning Maxus which is located down country and will be sent up via rfd to my local shop, the question is I am fairly short at 5tt 8 and the gun I've got my eye on has a 30" barrel (my current o/u is 28") and I'm looking to use it for everything from rough shooting, pigeons and of course to duck fighting and geese during the season, have I made a mistake going for the 30" option as I believe they are long anyway? Obviously I don't have the luxury of trying the gun before buying. Thanks in advance

jimmyb79
It will certainly be longer than you're used to. With the semi action, you can add a couple of inches to overall length, so the 30" barrel would be nearer to the 32" o/u. I shoot 30" o/us and have a 26" Maxus. Love it but wished I'd gone for longer. Have you made a mistake? I doubt it, if the gun fits, the extra length may suit you. Only one way to know...enjoy your new gun! felix-da-house-mouse
Never done "Duck fighting before".Tell us about It. Well you surround yourself with pieces of bread and as the ducks come in for it you need to try and knock them out of the air with your fists.... It's great fun ha ha Thanks for the reply Jimmy, I'm just hoping that it's not going to be too cumbersome especially while using it in a hide. Only one way to find out I guess,
Cosd
Personally I like 28" semi autos, but it really is a personal preference. You may or may not get on with it. Used for Wildfowling it will be fine but maybe a bit long in a confined pigeon hide. Don't over think it now if you've already bought it, wait till it arrives and you will soon find out if it suits you. That size will be great on the foreshore.
Westward
It's long past time to end the myth that barrel length choice is related to the person's height. Anyone in the normal range of size and strength can handle a 30" Maxus and probably more easily than an old school 28" Browning with the half ton barrels.
