bakerboy
The regular evening bounce. The North West would now seem to be a goer, I will pass it on to BASC and start the ball rolling. The North East is a little slower and the "other" is a little spread out but we have another week to go

Marki
I've just got back from attending this course at Millride Country Sports. The course content is perfect for anyone new to the sport or considering taking it up. The first couple of hours involved talking about the law, theory and equipment with plenty of opportunities for questions. The discussions around decoying patterns and decoy types was really interesting. What I really liked was that there was no pushing to buy the latest and greatest, the whole subject was based on real knowledge from two people who knew and enjoyed the subject. I'm not sure if I should mention this but as part of the discussion about gun safety there was an offer of a free gun fitting. I'm never going to turn down anything for free but was surprised to find just how far from the mark I was. Gun was too short, stance and head position wrong and I was firing from the wrong side! After lunch there was a practical bit on distance estimation, decoying patterns and hide building. This lead onto an opportunity to put it into practice and shoot a few clays from the hide. I shot at the first two from the right, my normal side and, as usual, missed both. Russ told me to try from the left as we had discussed. It felt a bit alien but what's to lose? I hit every other clay! I honestly could not believe what a difference it made. I wasn't the only one, I think everyone was smiling at the end of it. A great day out for me, the atmosphere and level of instruction from Russ and Roy was top notch with a genuine offer of support at a later date if required. I'm really pleased I saw the original post from Bakerboy all those months ago. In summary, worth every penny. Slightly off topic but there was a PW member there that I'd 'spoken' to on the forum but never actually met. Good to meet you Chris and remember, take off your ear defenders next time you want to say something quietly .

bakerboy
Glad you enjoyed the day. Russ and Roy are a great team, both love their Pigeon Shooting. Russ is flycoy on PW and will be great asset to all PW members as they get to know him. People can still vote for their venue of choice on this thread. Wasn`t sure about going on the course but the great feedback from Marki is pushing me towards attending if the distance isn`t too great. Just a thought, Nottingham and District Gun Club have corporate rooms. Could make a decent location for a course.
