1 oz Lee slugs

Recommended Posts

Hi does anyone load their own slugs, I have a mold and have cast some slugs already but never having loaded any before I was just looking for a bit of advice, I'll buy primed cases rather than re using old ones and overall length isn't too important as most will be shot through my 870 pump and some through my Armsan a612 that has never been ammo fussy.

I also intend to buy a roll crimp to finish them but advice on powders and wads would be welcomed.

I went with the Lyman sabot slug over the Lee one.

Use a charge of 20 gr of Unique, in a 70mm case, with a WAA12 or B&P Z21(?) wad.

When I don't have Unique I use Herco with a similar charge.

I ONLY use once-fired cases - and prefer those that are translucent (see-through, for the hard of thinking...)

I finish my cases with a normal star crimp. Make sure that the case has a good taper crimp, as otherwise you may have issues feeding through a pump.

Work a treat and cheap shooting. Nice mild recoil and accurate (beat some other reloads made with the Lee slug in a couple of informal comps...)

are the Sabot slugs the ones shaped like a big air gun pellet? if so do you cast these yourself?
