Conygree
Yesterday as usual my wife was having her run across the fields, when a very large german shepard ran towards her with the owner screaming for the dog to stop ,but it didn't. The dog was already wearing a muzzle jumped up to attack her trying to bit her through the muzzle, it really was a beast and a big as her. The owner finally pulled it back and put it on a chain, my wife screamed at her but the owner claimed it was playfull? My wife reported to the police ( we doubt if anything will happen) and the incident has left her in shock, this dog must be a repeat offender. Any advise or simular incidents members have experienced.
flash
we used to have a collie when i was a lot younger that was the best dog ive ever met with kids, it used to go to the nursery with my mum to collect me when i was very young, and would play with the same children every day there till one day for some reason it went for one of the kids, but didnt leave a mark, as soon as this happened my mum had her put down, much to the dissapointment of the mother of the attacked child, who was very against having her put down. i dont see how someone can own a dog they know will attack people, that they cant control, but refuse to have put down.its a danger to society and them solves, its just not sensible. cheers flash
arjimlad
This GSD would have, I guess, flattened my three year old son who is nervous of dogs at the best of times. I've taken him to meet friends with dogs and he's less nervous once he knows the dog. It's really rather annoying when people like your GSD owner say "oh he won't hurt anyone" or "he's just playful". Hope you get a registration plate sometime..
kip270
It's the owner who needs putting down not the dog. If you cannot control YOUR dog YOU should not have one. Hope you get a result, and your wife is OK
Poacher
Thank goodness they had some sense to put a muzzle on (there must be some reason they've chosen to do this) or the consequences could have been unthinkable. Personally i'm confident about being around dogs but it really p*sses me off when owners say he's just playing, I'm not stupid i know when a dog is playing and when he wants my arm off. As above this wouldn't have occured if the dog was under control !

Sorry to hear of this, lets hope Mrs PP is ok soon, It really sounds like the owner is at fault, the dog was (is) out of control, I have known of cases of German dogs (not bitches) doing this as they think they are protecting the owner, its possible the dog thought your wife was running towards them to cause them harm, when clearly she was not (think like a dog) A good kick in the stones should do the trick (Owner not dog)
Conygree
Many thanks, she was over 200 m away at the time and being quite a small lady the dog could have mistaken her for a child. I used to be a butchers boy = plenty of experience with angry dogs, I admit some days 'left' a knife in the basket - but never needed it ever. I learnt most of the tricks with angry dogs and passed them onto my wife but this one was a beast, but kids have no dog-skill. I agree it comes down to the owner. If there is any action I will let you all know - many thanks
