Redgum
I have found a Anschutz .22 hornet, not screw cut, blueing is all good, barrel looks good, trigger breaks like glass but stock is a bit rough, looks like varnished beech as quite light, dealer will let it go for £425, would this be a wise buy. Underdog
You bet it would. An old keeper friend used one for years.
wymberley
The only thing you can guarantee is that you won't find a new one. Grab it and enjoy.
Rem223
The Anschutz .22 I have has pretty light coloured wood. I also had a Weihrauch HW55 years ago that when rubbed down was pretty light in colour as had been stained. It may still be walnut but in need of refinishing. At £425 it sounds like a pretty good deal.
Redgum
Thanks for the input, I'm pretty sure(after a little research) Anschutz only used walnut, though the hornet isn't made anymore they still make 223's and they are £1200 new so its seems hard to go wrong. Alycidon
You might give the bore a good soak in copper remover, unless its owner died it will have been sold for a reason. Hornets don't really wear out so inaccuracy may be one issue that may be easily sorted. I have a friend with over 1000 fox kills to Sizzling Sue, his K Hornet, over about 40 years. Underdog
The only thing with hornet is water droplets form in the barrel. Every hornet I owned did it. I have been expecting it in the wmr but not seen it but every hornet would leave droplets from an odd shot. Thats how a hornet barrel ends up with pits :-(
