Fredwalton
Hi I was just wondering if anyone knows the rules of owning deactivated shotguns as I'm thinking of getting my first gun deactivated and hanging above the fire place, is this allowed? Also how much does it cost? Thanks
Danger-Mouse
Perfectly legal but I`ve no idea how much it would cost. I dare say someone else can provide that info for you though.
humperdingle
Depends how much of the work you can get done free or cheaply... I was quoted £160 by a local gunsmith to have the work done and certificate given, postage to and from proof house.
Fredwalton
Was hoping it would be cheaper than that. So once it's done do you have a certificate for it?

Fredwalton
What's proof house? Sorry if that's a daft question!!
rimfire4969
The proof house is where guns have to go to make sure they are fit for purpose. If you have a gun that you want to get deacted it will need to go to the proof house to be signed off that it can not work as it was intended. The famous Wabbitbosher on here deacted a hammer gun for me and also sent to to the proof house where they issued a cert for it. This means you don't need a shotgun license to own it and it can be put on the wall.
