rovercoupe
I have just bagged the first haul of greys this year after getting fed up of the amount of them around destroying trees and feeders, I thought there was about 5-8 on my land and in the local area but I have had 15 in the last 2 weeks just from one spot so the question is will the numbers go down or will they just keep coming from the surrounding woodland to take my feeders apart? Its been nice hunting and the list of birds I have seen has been amazing and got to watch 4 fledgling bluetits come to the feeders with the parents today and have a play at landing on them an having a good meal. Gonk
If they are in the surrounding area and not being controlled there they will keep coming. As those populations grow they will expand back into your area especially as it's clear your area can support their needs. The activity will reduce in the short term as you're getting on top of them but they will return from the surrounding areas. It could be you had a larger population than you first thought too. The good news is it's great sport and if I'm honest my favourite quarry !!
rovercoupe
The area I shoot links to a large woodland area which part of is shot by someone else but rarely so it looks like this will be a long term thing! just a shame they are not nice eating. Loki
Hi I think you will find quite a few people eat squirrel - might be worth trying before disposing of. Friends who do say chicken-like and recommend sprinkling salt and pepper over, turning in breadcrumbs to deep fry.......... Our over the pond Cousins seem keen. Over to you! Dekers
I find the Grey quite pleasant to eat, but as with pretty much all wildlife the last thing you want is some big, old bloke,....... tough, chewy and tasteless generally. The problem is, most tasty, young, tender, female, squirrels are time consuming to prepare and offer little more than a snack.

I have had only 2 females the rest have been big males with rather impressive nuts so dont fancy eating them.... I know the other shooter and am planning to ask if we can get together an have a good go at the area and get the 12g out on them.
