Blackpowder
We had the second last of our Club roost shoots on Saturday one comment which has been heard this spring from several members is how early pigeon now come into roost. Once it was a case of hanging on to the last permissable moment as pigeon zipped in like stuka bombers as the last of the light faded. Noe it is all over half an hour to an hour earlier. Incidently on Sunday 3 of us shot 158 pigeon on drilled barley. Most of the birds came over up to three gunshots hight and closed their wings to drop like stones into the decoy pattern. Again this is something different as in past experience birds came in from a distance at a shallow angle. Have any other members noticed the above . On Sunday morning we watched them at their roost wood until 10 am before they started to move, then when they did it was costant.
the hitman
Its a wonderfull sight when they drop like stones with their wings back into your decoys. I have noticed over the last few years that they feed harder in the afternoons, this was not always the case. There was a time when 3pm always seemed to be like a tap being turned off , they just stopped for the day.
